Abstract The Sino-US diplomatic relation establishment in 1979 has laid a foundation for a normalized trade relation between China and the U.S, which has acted as a stabilizer and catalyst of the Sino-US relation. The enormous market potential and market demand between the two countries facilitate a rapid and sound development of the trade relation. With the deepening implementation of opening up and reform policy, the continuously growing scale of the bilateral trade has led to increasing trade frictions, rising amount involving cases and variable forms, which has formed the most complex and significant bilateral trading relation in the world. First, the thesis conducted a literature review. Causes of frictions were analyzed from perspectives of trade protectionism, macro and micro economic theories and political and economic theories. On the basis of this, the thesis discovered that economic factors such as market failure, short-term price rigidity and negative balance of payment and political elements including scattered voter interest and lobby of groups of interest will both render trade protections implemented by the government. Both political and economic layers are associated with the influencing factors of anti-dumping and anti-subsidy. Second, the thesis discussed the evolution of Sino-US trade during different presidencies. The closeness of the political relations between the two countries and the change of their economic policies will directly influence the frequency of trade frictions, and the trade frictions tend to be fierce as the U.S trade protective measures are prejudiced and aggressive, gradually expanding to the system level. Third, the paper elaborated the photovoltaic dispute between China and the U.S., with an analysis of the impact of the dispute on markets, employments and governments, etc. of the two nations. Based on the above analysis, the paper produced brief remarks on the literature review of Sino-US trade frictions, their development trends and the photovoltaic dispute. And targeted countermeasures against the trade frictions were provided from perspectives of the government and corporation, in hope that a useful reference could be offered for China in tackling trade frictions and disputes with other countries. Furthermore, regarding traditional trade frictions and carbon tariff, a new type of trade friction lurking, a series of strategic suggestions were put forward and shortcomings of the thesis and expectation for a further exploration were explained. The last part argued the outlook for the Sino-US trade relation under Trump’s administration. To avoid the lose-lose situation, it is unlikely that a full-scale trade war will be waged, but regional conflicts might be inevitable. The steel industry will suffer the greatest shock provided that trade frictions will occur between the two nations. Key Word: Sino-US trade; trade friction; Photovoltaic Industry; Trade Inspection
