Abstract

My dissertation is intended to cover and tackle various aspects of gastronomic tourism, aka.: gastro-tourism in Europe focusing on gastronomies effects, innovations and its basic original history. However, identifying inadequacies and potential improvements takes its own fair share in my research within the gastronomic tourism of Europe but mostly in counties that have already created an undoubtedly accepted and established reputation for gastronomy and are fairly famous or at least well-known for their cuisine. Gastronomy in Europe has a special, very close bond with the Tourism Industry. This is probably the main reason why there are considerably less material and researches on the topic than other well-known topics. Based on experience so far, however, it can be said, that the Gastro-tourism is one of the Tourism Industries biggest and yet continuously growing and always improving market. To analyze the relationship between these two areas is undoubtedly a critical point of this Dissertation. Not the only point though. It is also my itnention to research the boundary that lies between national heritages and the world of food as well. Understanding culture through gastro-tourism is indeed a strange method if i can say so myself but i believe in its potential and the theory, that food and cuisine can definitely be the representation of cultures even in the 21th century. Gastronomy has always played a significant role even before it received its name and became a worldwide known phenomenon. I, in my whole life, was charmed by the world of delicious, strangely enchanting dishes from around the world and this is most likely the main reason why I decided to try and make this feeling the base of my Dissertation. Luckily, I had the opportunity to travel considerably a lot in my life so far and experience various new flavors by doing so. First of all, I honestly want to show people, to try to make them understand the thrill of discovering new dishes. The feeling when you experience a taste for the first time ever in your life cannot be compared to anything in this world! Well, it is not taking it too far to say that it is in the top five most pleasing feelings for sure. In this study, I am going to focus on the role of food and drink as an enhancing effect on the travellers and tourists experience, be it through marketing initiatives, literature or its presence in social media. I am definitely going to try to view the major themes of this topic from different angles and draw a conclusion at the end.
