Absztrakt (kivonat)

Afterward the dissolution of Soviet Union 15 former alliance countries gained their inde-pendence. Azerbaijan was one of them. Battling for independence was not easy; Azerbai-jan faced political and economical crises, civil wars and Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Due to war, more than a million people have been displaced from their home and obtained refugee status. All these factors have pressured and made transition period tough to Azer-baijan. However Azerbaijan economy recovered within 10-15 years and in spite of chal-lenges, including income inequality, Azerbaijan has quickly become an upper-middle-income country as its GDP per capita rose from $704 in 2001 to $5,496 in 2015 . Azerbaijan managed to utilize oil revenue in proper manner and reserve this capital to next generations with help of the SOFAZ. Since Azerbaijan economy is heavily depend-ent on oil sector the recent challenge is diversifying economy and achieving development of non-oil sector. Now Azerbaijan is trying to improve agriculture sector and targeting to attract foreign investment. Since Azerbaijan has very favorable climate and landscape agriculture sector is going to be fruitful. The objective of my thesis is to investigate the pervious and current economic situation of Azerbaijan, impact of oil sector in transition period and comparing Azerbaijan economy with its neighborhood, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
