Abstract

The purpose of this study is to understand the importance of wine tourism and its development in Şirince. The focus of this study is to understand the current condition of wine tourism in Sirince, to highlight strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threat of wine tourism in Sirince, and give recommendation for the improvement of wine tourism in Sirince. The primary data collection for this study is conducted through the interview with business owners related to wine tourism in Sirince. In total there are 8 interviews that conducted for this research, that are consist of 5 wine shops owners and 3 wine cellars owners   In addition, literature studies about Sirince Village and its tourism development also conducted as secondary data used in the analysis. SWOT analysis is used as the tools to analyse strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threat of wine tourism in Sirince.  There are several strengths of wine tourism activities in Sirince, those are: Sirince has unique wine product, quality of production by the use of traditional technique, direct interaction between consumers and producers, as well as attractive historical and cultural heritage of the village. The weakness is: decrease the wine quality due to mass production, financial difficulties of local business, lack of international tourists, lack of business cooperation, lack of marketing and promotion.  There are some opportunities for wine tourism development, such as it is located near the tourism centre of Turkey, with a growing trend of tourism and supported with a growing trend of wine consumption in the area. Some threats that highlighted are:  competition with other destination and business, as well as lack of government support. From the analysis, one of the main recommendations for the development of wine tourism in Sirince is a cooperation between stakeholders.
