In 2013, China proposed the OBOR development strategy. The promotion of this strategy has made China's commercial and import and export trade exchanges with countries along the route closer and closer. In this thesis, international trade activities also have a higher demand for international TF. And even greater challenges, the fast-growing demand for international TF has created conditions and opportunities for commercial banks. Different from the traditional TF of commercial banks, international TF under the OBOR faces more complicated financing risks, such as credit risk, exchange rate risk, interest rate risk, and political risk of countries along the route. Under the advocacy of the new strategy, the trading environment, settlement methods, and financing product composition of commercial banks have undergone tremendous changes. In this context, commercial banks must innovate to develop international trade financing business and adapt to changes in international TF trends under the OBOR. This thesis takes the BOC branch in Shanghai as an example to introduce in detail the opportunities and challenges that the bank faces under the background of the OBOR. On this basis, it analyzes the practical problems that exist in the process of risk management related to the TF business and proposes corresponding measures and improvement measures. From the perspective of the structure of the paper, firstly, it introduces the background and significance of the research topic of international TF business risk management in the context of the OBOR initiative, research methods, and thesis framework structure. Secondly, it specifically introduces the opportunities and challenges faced by the international TF business of BOC Shanghai Branch under the background of OBOR and analyzes the types of risks faced by BOC Shanghai Branch’s international TF business along the OBOR related routes. And risk points and the current status of risk management. Then, combined with real cases, it analyzed how the BOC Shanghai Branch implemented risk prevention at various stages of the TF business and summarized its innovations and shortcomings. Finally, specific improvement measures were put forward on how to further improve the risk management of the international TF business of the BOC Shanghai Branch.
