Abstract The thesis deals with the pre-opening period of hospitality business and summarizes all the steps that needs to be performed and secured before the opening. It also examines these activities in regard to the future operation. The work is divided into two parts, a theoretical-methodolical part and an analytical part. The first section aims at giving a picture about the topic itself by introducing the French tourism market, by describing the most important steps of the pre-opening period and by introducing the chosen chateau that serves as the case study for the analysis. In the second part, the analysis of the most important areas and activities of a pre-opening period is performed, based on interviews and direct observations of the author. This part deals with the accommodation, the establishment of front office and the area of housekeeping. In the human resources chapter the staffing method and organization structure is analysed. The food and beverage section introduces the most important F&B services provided by the chateau. The marketing and sales chapter starts with a research on the market, a segmentation analysis, a SWOT analysis, followed by a study on the competitors. The last three sections of this chapter deal with the distribution channels, pricing strategy and the advertising. The analysis on the budget and performance forecast highlights the negative consequences of the mistakes made throughout the opening period. The analysis concludes the most important steps that need to be secured in an opening period; and showcases what mistakes need to be avoided in order to have a successful operation.
